New I.D.

My Synodontis was origally sold to me as S. eupterus and for its size at the time that's what it looked like. After a while I kind of had my doubts and was proven correct today. I was browsing Planet Catfish this morning and went to their ID section and under Synodontis I found this.

This is exactly what my syno looks like. I am the proud owner of a Synodontis #6 from Guinea.

They look so close to me, I would have a hard time telling.

i would say they are eupterus...the one you showed us looks exactly like my eupterus....i had two, one male and one female (or so i believe)...the female grow very very large and become really dark in color where as the male is much smaller and stays a light yellowish color

If you look closely, the eupterus is a bit more high bodied and kind of scrunched up. Also the tail fin is more striped then spotted. The sp. #6 is slightly more elongate and spotted throughout.

When I first went to Planet Catfish years ago I thought I did have a featherfin. Their cat-e-log wasn't as complete on Synodontis as it is now. Today when I browsed it the Synodontis sp. #6 jumped out at me. Thats my catfish without a doubt. I could have been looking at its twin. Eupterus and sp 6 are very close but I'm 99.9 % sure mine is sp. 6.
