Return line upgrade.

Post by addicted2cichlid on Tue Feb 02, 2010 4:21 pm

so i orginally had the sump/refugium plumbed with 1/2" fittings and clear 1/2" tubing. Well the light from the refugium was making algae grow in the return line. i also noticed the U-tube had a air pocket in it... meaning my ancient Mag 5 pump was starting to not push like it once did.

so i got a new pump, Marineland 1800, and switched the old clear tubing for non-kink pond tubing that is black and allows no light in the tube.

went to the hardware store and picked up a few PVC thread/thread 90 elbows and made a new 3/4" return. also picked up a lockline base and a outlet jet to disperse water more evenly.

yucky algae 1/2"tubing: the spot u see with no algae is from me flicking the tube and watching a strip of algae fly through the tank.
