difference in growth rate

Post by Micheal on Sun Dec 27, 2009 10:23 pm

Just wondering what your fastest growing mbuna are? Mine are Saulosi. They grow to 1 1/2 inches a lot faster than my cobues or perlmutts.

Keeping them in a fry and growout tank together, my flavus and saulosi fry both grow faster than my others do. They were in a tank with rusty and lab fry and the flavus and saulosi were much more aggressive in their feeding style, so they grew faster. They come up to the top at feeding time, even as young fry, while the rusties and labs hung out more toward the bottom.

I've never kept track of the growth rate with them in separate fry tanks. That would be an interesting experiment.

I have never raised mbuna's.
Other than some Lab's and Acei's.
The ones I kept from small fish. My male Kenyi grew faster than the others.

i dont keep mbuna but out of my haps i would say that my nimbochromis grow the fastest out of the fish i have now, what has always made me wonder is why fish from the same brood or fish bought at the same time grow at different rates?

I agree. The Lab. fuelleborni is the fastest growing mbuna I´ve had.
