duckweed

Hey y'all,

I'm interested in growing duckweed. I have a 30 gallon aquarium outside, in the sun. Added some duckweed and got some fish friendly fertilizer for it. I'm sure it will grow, but my question is, with the water, just sitting in the tank, stagnant, wont that invite all kinds of parasites and stuff to grow in there ? Or does the fertilizer take care of that?

I know that puddles and any sort of non moving standing water can be deadly to humans due to bacteria and parasites and what not.... so im just curious if everything will go right with my duckweed project? If it does happen to grow something "bad", i dont want to scoop it up, then introduce it to my Cichlids, while feeding them the duckweed.

Any ideas?

Any chance you can run an airline out to it?

im sure i could run an airline to it. i wouldnt even mind bringing it inside the house. i have an extra light, i could put on it....

Leave it outside, you can't beat the light that mother nature provides.

im totally cool with leaving it outside, im just concerned about the growth of unwanted organisms. or are you suggesting to add the airline to it, to avoid the organisms, and leave it outside to get the best light possible?

Right, they've got airstones that are like 3 inches long, a couple of those would keep it from going stagnant
