Mixing tropheus
I'm trying to help a friend out with a question about mixing tropheus. After looking at Klaus' article, it sounds like it's not ideal, but can be done.
The tank is 180 gallons and would have a combination of duboisi and moori (lufubu). With that size of a tank, would these two work okay? And would it be a mistake to add only a couple of cherry spots, not a large group?
Thanks for any info.

Re: Mixing tropheus
What I´ve read through the years is that duboisi don´t often crossbreed with other Tropheus and are less aggressive as well. So that should be the safest choice. Mixing cherry spots with moori should also be pretty safe, but only a couple sounds to few.

Betty, our resident Swede is correct in one point. Duboisi are the safest bet if your friend absolutely wants to keep different Tropheus in one tank. However, there is no 100% guarantee that they will not interbreed.
I would not recommend to add the cherry spots, especially if it's only two of them.

Re: Mixing tropheus
Okay, thanks for the responses. I think the problem is there are so many nice variants, that it's hard to settle on just one.
And I do understand the interbreeding situation. I don't know if he's planning to raise fry, but I'll let him know.
Thanks again.
